Mathematics 16 Mathematics 17 (Click on thumbnail for enlargement) Here's another kids' science book from the wonderful Golden Press: Mathematics: The Story of Numbers, Symbols and Space. I picked this one up a number of years ago at a used book store for $2.50.

It's only 54 pages long, but the illustrations are as wonderful as you could hope, and the information makes math very exciting. I went over the pages about pi with my 8-year-old daughter, and her mind was blown. She freaked out that pi's decimal places went on forever and never repeated themselves. For the rest of the night, she peppered me with questions about pi and math. I've included the pages about Fibonacci numbers here, to give you an idea of the look and tone of the book.

I'm guessing that this book is an abridged version of The Giant Golden Book of Mathematics. I just bought a copy on Amazon for $28. But you can buy a copy of the 54-page book on Amazon for as low as $0.25.

I am flummoxed. You do the same things I do but I am stuck in my life, not in your shiny life.

I ALSO scanned the Golden Book of Chemistry - last year.

I ALSO bought and adore the book "Our Friend the Atom" - two years ago.

I ALSO worship Eames furniture, plus I watch their DVDs and I spent much time as a kid in their Mathematics exhibit at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry.

I ALSO discussed infinite decimals with my 8 year old daughter - last year.

Who ARE you? How did you break out of a mundane life and into your current beautiful life?

Have you tried Lego Mindstorms with your daughter?

Now if only all math books could explain things so well...maybe my calculus class would have been successful without a teacher!
